GENEVA, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) welcomed Montenegro on Sunday as its 154th member, the organization announced on Monday.
Montenegro applied for WTO membership in 2004 and informed the WTO it had accepted its membership package on March 30 this year. Under WTO rules, a country becomes a member 30 days after national ratification.
WTO will welcome Samoa, which applied in 1998, as its 155th member on May 10.
"I look forward to working with Montenegro and Samoa to help them become full and active members of the global trading system," said WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy.
