Airplane makes emergency landing after bird strike in Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 13 (Xinhua) -- A Tara Airplane carrying passengers from Jumla to Nepalgunj in mid-western Nepal made emergency landing at Surkhet airport shortly after hitting birds upon takeoff on Wednesday.

According to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the plane escaped major crash due to the capability of the captain. However, one co-pilot sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The bird hit has caused a minor damage to the left part of the plane. All 19 passengers on board the aircraft are said to be safe.

On June 9, a helicopter carrying Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai from Dharan to the capital Kathmandu made emergency landing in Udaypur due to technical problems.
