PRISTINA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Head of Kosovo Privatization Agency Dino Asanaj was stabbed to death by unknown assailants Thursday at his private office in the outskirts of Pristina.
Director of the Surgery Department in the Pristina University Clinic Mehmet Maxhuni told journalists Asanaj had lost too much blood due to the wounds in the throat and the left side of the chest.
Police said they rushed to the scene after an emergency call and the motive of the brutal act is still unknown.
"This coward act is a serious act against the individual and the Kosovo society, against the democratic institutions of Kosovo and above all, it is an act against the functioning of rule of law," the Pristina authorities said.
The authorities called on security department to undertake all the necessary measures to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Asanaj is a Kosovo resident who immigrated to the United States in 1985. He became the chairman of the board of Kosovo Privatization Agency after the Serbian province declared independence unilaterally in 2008, which was rejected by Serbia.
The agency, established in 2008, is governed by the Kosovo assembly and is in charge of selling states assets to investors.
