UN demands civilian evacuations in Syria's Homs

The head of the UN observatory mission is Syria has urged the conflicting sides to allow women, children, the elderly and the wounded to be moved out of the war zone in Homs.

Robert Mood called for immediate steps to be taken to ease the suffering of Syrians “caught up in a trap of violence”. He said the Mission was ready to oversee the evacuation as soon the government and the opposition had agreed to the proposal.

On Saturday the UN mission said it was suspending its work due to a notable spike in violence in the strife-torn Arab nation.
