MANILA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Benigno Aquino III formally administered the oath of office to Sonia Brady as new Ambassador to China in ceremonies held Monday in Malacanang, the presidential palace.
Aquino appointed Brady in late May this year.
Brady served as Philippine ambassador to Beijing from April 2006 to January 2010. She was also former ambassador to Thailand from 2002 to 2003, and ambassador to Myanmar from 1995 to 1999.
Previously, Brady served as deputy chief of mission to Indonesia from 1994 to 1995; deputy chief of mission to Thailand ( 1992-1994); third secretary and vice consul and then second secretary and consul in Beijing from 1976 to 1978.
The Congress' Commission on Appointments, taking cognizance of her expertise and experience as a veteran diplomat, swiftly confirmed her appointment a few days after she was chosen as the new ambassador to China.
Prior to her appointment, Aquino chose businessman Domingo Lee as the ambassador to China. But it was not approved by the Commission on Appointments because some lawmakers had questioned his qualifications.
