KABUL, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Up to 12 militants have been killed and 16 other detained in joint cleanup operations within the past 24 hours, the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Sunday morning.
"Afghan police, army and NATO-led coalition forces carried out six cleanup operations in Kabul, Kunar, Balkh, Kandahar, Helmand and Zabul provinces, killing 12 armed Taliban militants and detaining 16 other armed suspects over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.
Three other militants have been injured during the raids, it added.
The joint forces also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
Militancy has been on constant rise since the Taliban launched its spring offensive on May 3 this year.
The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments.
