ROME, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti on Wednesday named Deputy Finance Minister Vittorio Grilli as the finance minister of his technocratic government, according to a government statement.
Grilli will be formally sworn in by President Giorgio Napolitano later on Wednesday.
Monti had been acting as the finance minister in his emergency government which was appointed last November to tackle an escalating debt crisis.
Grilli, a 55-year-old distinguished economist, served as director-general of the Italian Treasury between 2005 and 2011.
