Qatar to send mission for Gaza reconstruction

GAZA, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Qatar will send a mission to the Gaza Strip to oversee rebuilding programs the Gulf country plans to launch next month in the Hamas-ruled land, a Hamas official said Saturday.

The mission will set up an office early next month here to coordinate the reconstruction process with Hamas authorities, said senior Hamas official Yousef al-Mansi.

Hamas has been talking recently about a Qatari decision to launch the rebuilding projects in Gaza without coordination with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

However, there is no official Qatari confirmation about these reports, while the PNA officials were reportedly upset as they were bypassed by Qatar.

The construction mainly targets houses and infrastructure installments that were either destroyed or damaged by Israel's military attack in 2008-2009.
