The United States reiterated Wednesday that the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea fall within the scope of the Japan-U.S. security treaty in talks with a senior Japanese diplomat.
A Japanese media reports that Kurt Campbell, the assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, met with the leader of Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asia-Pacific Bureau on Wednesday. The two sides confirmed that the Diaoyu Islands fall within the scope of the Japan-U.S. security treaty during their meeting.
It is reported that the Japanese cabinet will discuss measures to resolve the territorial row of Diaoyu Islands and Dokdo Islands implicating China and South Korea respectively on August 23.
