Japan has decided to turn down a request of the Tokyo Metropolitan government to land on the disputed Senkaku islands in the East China Sea.
The refusal is being formally communicated to the Tokyo government which is considering to purchase the islands in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa from a private owner. It applied for permission to land on the islet to conduct field surveys.
In view of recent developments over the islands, the Central government decided to reject the request as it believes that the landing may negatively impact the peaceful and stable management of the islands, Japanese media reported on Monday.
