Japan's national government has reportedly reached an agreement with the "owner" of Diaoyu Islands. Japan is expected to buy the islands for 2.5 billion yen and complete the nationalization of the island group by the end of September.

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation reported that the national government hopes to finish necessary paper works as soon as possible to realize "stable, peaceful and effective" control of Diaoyu Islands.

However, the Tokyo Metropolitan government, which initiated a public campaign to buy the Diaoyus earlier this year, is still interested in purchasing several adjacent isles of the island group.

According to the report, Japan's Noda administration wants Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara's help in managing the islands, which will most probably be put under the jurisdiction of Tokyo after “nationalization”.
