Japanese government officially decided to purchase China's Diaoyu Islands Monday afternoon, reported by local media.

The purchase of three of the Daioyu Islands chain from the "owner" for 2.05 billion yen (RMB 166 million) is decided at a ministerial meeting attended by Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura, Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Yuichiro Hata and Finance Minister Azumi Jun, the sources said.

The decision is considered by experts as the most severe unilateral move which has been thus far taken by the Japanese side, and will torpedo the Sino-Japanese relations.
