UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and expressed his gratitude for Norway's enormous and consistent support for the United Nations in many areas.
The two also discussed the importance of UN reform in such aspects as the mobility of staff, especially in a time of financial austerity, said a UN readout to the press here.
The secretary-general also congratulated Eide on his recent appointment as minister for foreign affairs of Norway.
This was the first meeting between the UN chief and Eide, who was appointed the Norwegian foreign minister in a government reshuffle on Friday.
The meeting took place one day ahead of the start of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly.
