A woman told police that she gave birth on the Philadelphia subway on Tuesday afternoon. The woman wasn't planning on giving her baby such a dramatic entrance, but the newborn wasn't going to wait.

According to a report from CBS 3 in Philadelphia, the new mom approached transit police officer Loyd Rodgers at Philadelphia's Broad Street Station. She told Rodgers and his partner that she'd just given birth on a train and showed them the brand-new baby. The officers helped wrapped the newborn in blankets and called for medical care.

Rodgers described the unexpected event as fun and joyous (of course, he wasn't the one who gave birth). He told CBS 3, "It was a celebration, a real celebration." Passersby took photos and shouted their congratulations to the new mom.

Subway cashier Cynthia Leaks described the baby as "beautiful, just beautiful. All this pretty curly hair. He was just gorgeous." That beauty was matched by the look on the mom's face, according to Officer Rodgers. "I'd never be able to describe it in a thousand years."

Both mom and baby are doing well and recovering at nearby Einstein Medical Center.
