ANKARA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Eight members of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) have been killed Thursday in clashes in the southeastern Turkey, private Dogan news agency reported Friday.

The Turkish Armed Forces launched military operations in the area after unmanned vehicles picked up footage of the militants in Aktutun village of Semdinli town in Hakkari province on Wednesday.

Clashed erupted between the Turkish troops and the group of PKK members early Thursday, leaving eight militants killed, according to the report.

Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Over 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts fuelled by PKK's separatist campaign in Turkey.
