Peru Prime Minister and the President of the Council of Ministers Juan Jimenez on Wednesday apologized for the Minister of Labor’s assault of a female airport employee.

The Minister of Labor José Villena reported assaulted a worker of LAN airlines and other airport employees last week, sparking an outcry in the country.

"He came last night to Arequipa to have an interview with people. He himself has acknowledged that it was a mistake, " Juan Jimenez said at a press conference after holding a cabinet meeting on the incident.

The PM added that the incident "is an isolated case" and reiterated his apology on behalf of the Government to the workers of the air terminal.

"Obviously this is a painful situation. Nobody wants these things to happen, but sometimes they occur. And I think it is important for him to offer an apology, "he said after a Cabinet meeting.

It’s reported that the minister of labor is due to explain the incident at a parliament meeting scheduled for December 11.
