TRIPOLI, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Three members of the Libyan national army were killed and nine others wounded in an armed attack Saturday night in the city of Bani Walid, an army spokesman told Xinhua.
An armed group attacked a patrol of the Supreme Security Committee (SSC) who were maintaining security in Dahra district of central Bani Walid, about 180 km southeast of Tripoli, spokesman of the army's chief of staff, Col. Ali Sheikhe, said.
The patrol came under a heavy fire by the armed group, and the national army were sent to the scene after receiving a call for reinforcement.
The attack left three army members dead and nine SSC members injured, Sheikhe said.
An official at the SSC media office said in a statement that investigations were underway to determine the circumstances of the attack.
