Pakistan has decided to accord recognition to the Republic of Kosovo, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

The decision has been made in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kosovo, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

Kosovo declared "fully independence" in September this year after the Western powers overseeing Kosovo announced the end of their supervision of this Balkan nation.

"The government of Pakistan has also decided to concurrently accredit its ambassador to the Republic of Turkey in Ankara as ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Kosovo," the Foreign Ministry said.

Kosovo Foreign Ministry spokesperson Artan Behrani said at the weekend that Pakistan became the 98th sovereign state to recognize Kosovo.

He was quoted by the media as saying that Kosovo's Foreign Ministry had received a confirmation of the recognition from Pakistan.
