The U.S. Congress has certified the outcome of the country's November 6th presidential elections, officially declaring the winner Barack Obama.
This occurred at a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.
In a solemn ceremony the certified voting results of all 50 states and the District of Columbia were out loud.
The actual ballots of members of the Electoral College were brought into the meeting in two mahogany caskets.
According to the announcement the final results were 332 votes for Obama and 206 for his rival, Republican Mitt Romney.
The inauguration will take place in Washington on the steps of the Capitol on January 21st.
