Australia's New South Wales (NSW) are well and truly in the bushfire danger period as temperatures in many parts of the state are expected to soar to near-record levels, the authorities warned on Monday.

Sydney's temperature is predicted to climb to 43 degrees Celsius due to a heatwave pushing super hot air from inland Australia into NSW.

Temperatures in the state's far west are likely to hit 45 degrees.

NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons told the Australian commercial television network Channel Seven that Tuesday's "awful conditions" meant bushfires would "start very easily and spread very quickly".

"We're going to experience conditions like we haven't seen for many many years," he said.

"We've got awful conditions coming our way, and people need to be prepared."
