TEHRAN, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian energy official announced that Iran has recently discovered a natural gas field in northeastern country, Tehran Times daily reported on Sunday.

Iran's Central Oilfields Company Managing Director, Mehdi Fakour, said that "Details of the discovery of new natural gas reserves in the region will be announced by the National Iranian Oil Company," according to the report.

The exploratory study of the newly discovered gas field will continue until September 2013, he was quoted as saying.

According to Tehran Times, in December, Iran's Oil Ministry announced that the country's proven crude oil and natural gas reserves are worth around 37 trillion U.S. dollars.

The reserves include 100 billion barrels of crude oil, 94 billion barrels of condensates, and 207 billion barrels equivalent of natural gas.
