CAIRO, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of protesters demonstrated Monday in Nasr City in western the Egyptian capital Cairo to support the armed forces against the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), to which President Mohamed Morsi is affiliated, Ahram online reported.

The protesters chanted slogans backing the army, and carried banners saying "Down, down with rule by the guide," which referred to the MB's leader Mohamed Badie.

A total of 17 female movements, some political parties and retired officers participated in the protest.

Earlier media reports said Defense Minister Abdel-Fattah al- Sisi was sacked, but the Egypt's presidency has reaffirmed on Monday confidence in al-Sisi and its appreciation to the armed forces.
