ALGIERS, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Algeria will send aid and rescuers to Lebanon after deadly explosions in Lebanese capital Beirut, the official APS news agency reported on Thursday.

Saida Benhabiles, president of Algerian Red Crescent, which supervises the aid operation, said the aid consists of foodstuffs, medical and pharmaceutical supplies, tents and blankets.

She added that the aid will be transported by four military planes on Thursday night.

Benhabiles said an Algerian ship loaded with construction materials to help rebuild what was destroyed by explosions will sail to Lebanon soon.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has sent a message of condolence to his Lebanese counterpart, Michel Aoun, over the huge explosions in Beirut.

Two huge explosions rocked Port of Beirut on Tuesday evening, killing at least 137 people and injuring nearly 5,000 others, while causing massive damages in the city.
