Tropical storm Chalane leaves Mozambique with five injuries

MAPUTO, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The tropical storm Chalane, which has been felt since Monday and made landfall on Wednesday early morning in central Mozambique, caused five injuries in the port city Beira, according to the national radio station RM quoting the director of the Beira Central Hospital Nelson Mucopo.

The wounded are all victims of the collapse of houses and are not in danger of life, the director told the radio.

The Mozambican National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) said in a statement that the storm peaked on Wednesday morning, in Beira, the central province of Sofala at around 6 am, reaching a speed of 104 km per hour and deflected to Zimbabwe.

INAM said the storm was no longer a danger to navigation on the Mozambique Channel and the institute will issue updates whenever necessary. Enditem
