CAIRO, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Egypt officially reopened its airspace to Qatari aircraft on Tuesday, ending over three years' airspace ban on the Gulf state, official news agency MENA reported on Tuesday.

"The move allows EgyptAir, the country's flag carrier, and Qatar Airways to resume air traffic and exchange flight schedules between the Egyptian and Qatari civil authorities for approval," chairman of Egypt's Civil Aviation Authority Ashraf Noweir was quoted by MENA as saying.

The aviation authority has also approved a request by the Qatari authorities to allow Qatari aircraft to pass through the Egyptian airspace, Noweir added.

The decision comes days after Egypt signed the Al-Ula declaration at the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council Summit, which ended a boycott by the Arab Quartet that included Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain on Qatar. Enditem
