HARARE, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) said Friday it has recorded an increase in the number of electrical faults due to incessant rains being received throughout the country.

"Due to the increase in the number of faults, ZETDC advises that the turnaround time in attending to these faults and restoring power to customers may take longer than is normally the case," the power utility said in a statement.

Zimbabwe, predicted to receive normal to above normal rainfall in the 2020/2021 rainfall season, has been receiving heavy rains throughout the country over the past week, causing flooding in some areas.

ZETDC said the faults were due to falling of electricity poles, trees falling on overhead electricity cables, water seeping into underground cables and lighting striking critical electricity equipment and infrastructure, among other rain-induced faults. Enditem
