GABORONE, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Torrential rains are wreaking havoc across Botswana with weather experts predicting more rains and thunderstorms in most parts of the southern African country.

These torrential rains caused by the remnants of Cyclone Eloise have triggered flashflood in many parts of the country especially in Botswana's capital city, Gaborone, Moagi Baleseng, the director in Botswana's National Disaster Management Office, told Xinhua late Tuesday.

"We are experiencing major challenges in major cities. The rains have been pouring non-stop since Jan. 31, poor drainage system has also exacerbating the flash flooding especially in Gaborone," said Baleseng.

Baleseng said authorities are still compiling the magnitude of the damage caused by the flashflood so far, however the incessant rains are also making it difficult to assess the damage. Enditem
