CAIRO, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League on Tuesday voiced concerns over the escalation of the border disputes between Sudan and Ethiopia.

"The Arab League follows closely with worries the latest developments along the Sudanese-Ethiopian borders as well as the statements and the reports over the military clashes between the two countries," the Arab League said in a statement.

The pan-Arab body also reaffirmed support for its member state Sudan in taking all legal measures to preserve the sovereignty of its lands, while urging the two countries to calm the tensions and seek dialogue at the earliest opportunity.

Since mid-December, the Sudanese-Ethiopian borders have been experiencing rising tensions and skirmishes.

Disputes have been concentrated on agricultural land in Fashqa area, which falls within Sudan's boundaries but has been used by Ethiopian farmers since 1995.

On Dec. 16, 2020, the Sudanese army said some of its soldiers were ambushed at the border by the Ethiopian militia.

Since then, Sudan has deployed forces at the border to take back the seized lands. Enditem
