CAIRO, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi reaffirmed his country's keenness to support the Libyan people in formulating the mechanisms for governing the war-torn country, the presidential office said in a statement.
Sisi made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dbeibah who was voted as the new Libyan prime minister, which was also attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Director of General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.
For his part, Dbeibah said the Libyan government and people look forward to establishing a comprehensive partnership with Egypt and learning from its inspiring experience with regards to the economic reform, and restoring peace and security.
Libya has been experiencing a civil war since the ouster and killing of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The situation escalated in 2014, splitting power between two rival governments: the UN-backed Government of National Accord based in the capital Tripoli and one in the northeastern city of Tobruk allied with east-based military commander Khalifa Haftar.
On Feb. 5, members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum elected a new prime minister and a new presidency council during a voting session in Geneva.
This is Dbeibah's first foreign visit since the election. Enditem
