LAGOS, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Five of the 39 students kidnapped from a college in Nigeria's restive northwest state of Kaduna have regained their freedom, an official said.

A group of unknown gunmen abducted the students from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Afaka, Igabi local government area of the state on March 11.

In a statement issued in Kaduna late on Monday, Samuel Aruwan, the state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said the military has informed the state government that the students who have been freed are presently in a military facility where they are undergoing a thorough medical check-up.

"The Kaduna State Government will provide updates on further operational feedback to be received on this case," he said. Enditem
