NAIROBI, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Three Kenyan herders were on Tuesday killed and several others injured when armed Sudanese raiders attacked a grazing field at the Kenya-South Sudan border.

George Natembeya, Rift Valley regional coordinator said a group of Toposa tribesmen from South Sudan was behind the attack on the herders at the grazing field in northern Kenyan county of Turkana.

"The group was big and they overpowered Turkana herders, three herders were shot dead and several others injured," said Natembeya

He said the raiders drove away more than 170 herds of cattle after a fierce gun battle.

Natembeya said security agents had been dispatched to the Kenya-South Sudan border to protect local herders.

A source at the border said the raiders from South Sudan were on a revenge mission after a recent attack by Turkana cattle rustlers.

Tension remained high at the Kenya-South Sudan border as Turkana herders relocated to safer areas.

The Kenyan herders had moved to the border region in search of pasture but revenge attacks are hampering the sharing of resources with their South Sudan counterpart. Enditem
