Tanzanian police seize 19.6 kg of cannabis

DAR ES SALAAM, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian police said on Monday they have seized 19.6 kilograms of cannabis and arrested one suspect in the country's southern region of Ruvuma.

The Ruvuma regional police commander, Simon Maigwa, said the suspect was arrested on Sunday as he was ferrying the cannabis from Songea, Ruvuma region's capital, to Mbeya region.

Maigwa said acting on a tip-off from the public, police arrested the suspect shortly after he got on a bus heading to Mbeya city from Songea.

Maigwa added that the suspect concealed the cannabis in his backpack.

The police official warned people against drug trafficking, saying those who are arrested will face full force of the law. Enditem
