TRIPOLI, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Libyan Minister of Health Ali Zanati announced on Wednesday an initiative to reopen the coastal road for transportation of medical supplies and movement of patients.
"We announce the launch of the initiative Power of Hope by the Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity to reopen the coastal road to transport patients, bodies, medicines, and humanitarian needs," Zanati told a press conference.
The coastal road that links western and eastern Libya has been closed since the war erupted between the former UN-backed government of national accord and the rival east-based army in 2019.
"There are technical arrangements for implementing the initiative and opening a humanitarian passage in coordination with the concerned authorities," the minister said,
Despite the end of a war more than a year ago and a cease-fire agreement reached by the Libyan rivals, the coastal road has remained closed. Enditem
