ABUJA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and seven others critically injured after a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a river in central Nigeria's Kogi state on late Tuesday, the country's road safety police said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said two persons are still missing, adding that the bus, carrying 15 passengers, suddenly lost control in the Koton Karfe axis of Kogi.
The bus fell into a river which is a tributary to the Niger River, the principal river of West Africa, said the FRSC statement.
It said eight local divers were engaged to rescue the victims and recover the dead bodies.
However, the FRSC said the search for two female passengers was still underway.
The 18-seater bus left Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub, and was en route to Kano in the northwest region of the country before the incident, according to the official statement.
The critically injured victims have been taken to a nearby government hospital, the FRSC said, adding it is still investigating the cause of the crash. Enditem
