ALGIERS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The 11th Algiers International Film Festival was postponed due to the evolution of COVID-19, according to a statement of the festival's organizing committee on Monday.

The annual festival, usually scheduled for December, will be postponed to 2022, said the statement.

Given so many uncertainties still hang over the evolution of the pandemic and the resumption of air traffic, the committee decided to postpone the film festival, the statement was quoted by local TSA news website as saying.

For now, Algeria has reportedly not detected any case of the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus, which scientists say has a high number of mutations, was first detected in South Africa last week. Enditem
