1st LD: 7.5-magnitude quake hits northern Peru

LIMA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 has struck northern Peru early Sunday morning, with no immediate report of injuries so far.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake took place at 5:52 a.m. local time (1052 GMT). The epicenter, with a depth of 99 km, was around 40 km northwest of the coastal city of Barranca, and about 550 km northeast of the capital Lima.

The country's National Institute of Civil Defense said no injuries have been reported so far.

No tsunami warning was issued after the quake, according to the U.S. National Weather Service. Enditem
