LONDON, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- COVID-19 cases are rising in all 50 U.S. states, and have more than doubled over the past two weeks in 43 states, British newspaper Daily Mail has reported.

The Omicron variant is now responsible for more than 98 percent of new COVID-19 cases in the country, said the report on Tuesday.

South Carolina has seen a 759 percent increase in cases over the past two weeks, leading the nation in case growth as Omicron tears through the south, it said.

Meanwhile, cases are starting to spike along the west coast, with California and Oregon both experiencing near 600 percent growth after a decline in recent weeks.

Rhode Island is now the leader in daily case rate, recording 418 infections per every 100,000 residents every day, it said.
