Driver dies, 40 injured after train, school bus collide in north New Zealand

WELLINGTON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A driver of a school bus was dead and 40 people including six children were injured after the bus collided with the back of a passing train on Wednesday near Palmerston North in New Zealand's North Island.

The female bus driver who died in the crash, heading to the Feilding High School, was trying to cross the train tracks when her bus hit the back of the train at about 8 a.m. local time at a railway-road intersection.

Police are still investigating the case.

The six injured children were taken to Palmerston North Hospital immediately. Their injuries were minor or moderate, according to the police.

Emergency services arrived at the scene. Many parents have picked up children from the scene.
