Malaysia reports 823 new COVID-19 cases, 8 new deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 823 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said Sunday, bringing the national total to 26,565.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that all new cases are local transmissions.

Another eight new deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 229.

The majority of new cases are from the state of Sabah, with 533 of the new cases reported in the state.

Another 579 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 17,134, or 64.5 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 9,202 active cases, 99 are being held in intensive care unit and 30 of those are in need of assisted breathing. Enditem
