KABUL, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Five Taliban militants were killed in an airstrike conducting by the U.S. forces in Afghanistan on Sunday night, the coalition forces confirmed on Monday.
The U.S.-Forces Afghanistan conducted a targeted strike in Nerkh district, Wardak province last night in defense of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and in accordance with the U.S.-Taliban agreement, killing five Taliban fighters, the U.S.-Forces Afghanistan, which is part of the NATO-led coalition said on social media.
The province, some 35 km west of the country's capital of Kabul, has been the scene of clashes between Taliban and Afghan forces in recent years.
The United States and the Taliban inked a peace deal on Feb. 29 in the Gulf state of Qatar.
Under the U.S.-Taliban peace agreement, the U.S. and NATO-led coalition forces would leave Afghanistan by July next year depending on whether the Taliban outfit meets the conditions envisaged in the agreement, including severing ties with foreign terrorist groups. Enditem
