SYDNEY, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Australian state of Victoria has launched its first-ever deer management strategy in a bid to reduce the increasing damage caused by the wild animal and maintain hunting opportunity at the same time.

In a statement released on Friday, the government of Victoria state said wild deer is associated with a growing number of traffic accidents and can cause significant damage to the natural environment as well as aboriginal cultural heritage in the state.

As a response to the growing deer problem, the strategy sets out a long-term coordinated plan to reduce the impacts of wild deer and make the roads safer.

"This strategy will address feral deer numbers in the outer suburbs of Melbourne to not only protect our environment but to increase public safety," Victoria's Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D'Ambrosio said. Enditem
