4 children killed after getting trapped underneath soil in India's Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Four children were killed and two others injured Monday after getting trapped underneath a huge mound of soil in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, police said.

The incident took place at village Barkhedi in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh.

According to officials, seven children were digging earth at the spot, when it suddenly caved in, trapping six of them.

The seventh boy who escaped unhurt raised alarm, prompting locals and police to rush to the spot.

"Today four children (three boys and one girl) were killed after they got buried under a huge mass of earth. The deceased were digging earth at village Barkhedi, when it suddenly caved in burying them underneath," a police official said. "A total of six children were buried under the mound of earth. Rescuers pulled all of them but four of them succumbed and remaining two are undergoing treatment at the hospital."

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief and sorrow over the death of children in the incident. Enditem
