Uzbek FM, head of Afghan nat'l reconciliation council discuss bilateral issues, peace

TASHKENT, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah here Wednesday to discuss bilateral issues and regional security, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The two parties exchanged views on important aspects of the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan, as well as the issues of regional security, according to a statement released by the ministry.

Special attention is being paid to strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries through the joint implementation of investment and infrastructure projects in the transport, logistics, energy, trade and education sectors, according to the statement.

The two sides stressed the importance of intensifying Afghanistan's involvement in the integration processes in Central Asia, which would help bring peace and stability to the country at an early date, it said.

Uzbekistan shares a border with Afghanistan in the south, and has been participating in the socio-economic revival and regional infrastructure projects, including building railways and electricity lines, of the war-torn country. Enditem
