Sri Lanka to set up tea stalls countrywide to provide quality fresh tea

COLOMBO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will set up tea stalls across the country to provide quality fresh tea to consumers at reasonable prices, local media reported Monday.

Initially, tea outlets will be set up in selected cities across the country, making it easier for consumers to buy high-quality fresh tea, Company Estate Reforms, Tea and Rubber Estates Related Crops Cultivation and Factories Modernization and Tea and Rubber Export Promotion State Minister Kanaka Herath was quoted in the local Daily News as saying.

The minister said although Sri Lanka was a world-renowned manufacturer of quality tea for decades, Sri Lankan consumers could not buy standardized, quality tea leaves. Therefore, this project enables them to obtain high-quality tea and other tea-related products at reasonable prices, the minister said.

"Tea stalls will be opened up in towns. As an outcome of this move, low-quality tea will be removed from the market gradually with the availability of high-quality tea," he added.

The tea stalls will be set up at buildings owned by the state in the towns and suburbs across the country.

The minister has instructed officials to prepare a list of cities to set up the first tea stalls. Enditem
