Monk stomped to death by wild elephant in Thailand

BANGKOK, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Thai police on Tuesday said a Buddhist monk was stomped to death by a wild elephant on his way to collect alms in Thailand's western province of Kanchanaburi.

Police said the monk aged 64 was found lying face down in the grass 60 meters away from the national park where the elephant was presumably inhabiting.

The monk suffered serious injuries on his face, a broken skull and fractured legs.

National park officials have constantly warned residents living around the premise of elephants to stay away from the pachyderm as some may go berserk out of hunger or at heat. Enditem
