TASHKENT, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's armed forces have renewed 41 percent of their weaponry over the past four years and are continuing to modernize the rest, Deputy Defense Minister Alisher Norboev said Friday.

"Along with acquiring new military equipment, we are modernizing existing ones, and we use modern communication equipment made domestically," he said in a press conference.

Since President Shavkat Mirziyoyev came to power in 2016, Uzbekistan has been re-arming its military with modern equipment, some of which is being supplied locally.

Earlier this week, Mirziyoyev inspected several items produced by the Uzbek Defense Industry, including light armored vehicles.
