NEW DELHI, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least 13 migrant laborers sleeping on a footpath in India's western state of Gujarat were killed and several others injured Tuesday after a truck overran them, police said.

The accident took place early in the morning at Kosamba village, around 245 km south of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.

Police have identified the victims as migrant laborers hailing from Rajasthan state.

Reports said first a collision between a goods truck and a tractor took place, following which the truck driver lost balance and climbed on the footpath crushing the people sleeping there.

Following the accident, police teams rushed to the spot and removed the injured to hospital.

Om Birla, speaker of Lok Sabha or the lower house of the parliament, expressed grief over the accident and extended sympathy with the victims' families.
