Tokyo stocks open higher as investors seek out bargains

TOKYO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Tuesday as investors sought out bargains following the market's recent retreat after hitting 30-year highs last week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 255.27 points, or 0.90 percent, from Monday to 28,497.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.08 points, or 0.38 percent, at 1,852.57.

Rubber product, electric power and gas, and farm and fishery-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
