India records less than 10,000 COVID-19 cases, Philippines reports 1,235 infections

HONG KONG, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- More COVID-19 cases and deaths were reported in Asia-Pacific on Tuesday, as India recorded 9,110 more cases, taking the total to 10,847,304, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

This was the first day in the past several months when less than 10,000 cases per day were registered in the country, and the fourth consecutive day when the number of deaths recorded in a single day was below 100.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 155,158 as 78 COVID-19 patients died since Monday morning.

There are still 143,625 active cases in the country, while 10,548,521 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 1,235 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 540,227.

The death toll climbed to 11,296 after 65 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.

It also said 53 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 499,764.

Bangladesh reported 387 new cases and eight new deaths, making the tally at 538,765 and the death toll at 8,229, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 14,468 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 484,573 including 642 new recoveries on Tuesday, said the DGHS.

South Korea reported 303 more cases, raising the total number of infections to 81,487.

Of the new cases, 86 were Seoul residents and 117 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Thirty cases were imported, lifting the combined figure to 6,574.

Eight more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,482.

Thailand confirmed 189 new cases, mostly domestic infections, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Of Tuesday's new cases, 179 were domestic infections while 10 others were imported cases, said CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin.

Thailand has so far confirmed 23,746 cases, 21,185 of which were domestic infections while 2,561 others referred to imported cases. Enditem
