India's COVID-19 tally rises to 11,063,491, Indonesia reports 8,232 new cases

HONG KONG, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Asia-Pacific countries kept recording more COVID-19 cases on Friday as India reported 16,577 more infections, taking the total to 11,063,491, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 156,825 with 120 new deaths.

There are still 155,986 active cases in the country, while 10,750,680 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment.

The confirmed cases in Indonesia rose by 8,232 within one day to 1,322,866, with the death toll adding by 268 to 35,786, the health ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry, 7,261 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,128,672.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 2,651 new cases, the highest daily increase since Oct. 17 last year, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 571,327.

The death toll climbed to 12,247 after 46 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. Meanwhile, 561 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 524,582.

South Korea reported 406 more cases, raising the total number of infections to 88,922.

Of the new cases, 129 were Seoul residents and 135 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Twenty-four cases were imported, lifting the combined figure to 7,014.

Four more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,585.

Thailand recorded 45 new confirmed cases, with 37 of them being domestic cases, according to a report of the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Of Friday's new cases, eight were reported in people returning from abroad and testing positive for the coronavirus in Thailand, the CCSA report said.

Thailand has so far reported 25,809 confirmed cases, 23,056 of which were local transmissions and 2,753 others were imported cases. Enditem
